Dance bars are a very popular “going out style” in Tel Aviv. I think they are so successful in town thanks to two things: First of all Tel Avivians love to dance, secondly Tel Avivians love to drink.

The typical Tlv dance bar perfectly combines the two elements and allows one to feel like he’s going dancing with out having to go through the mental preparation involved in going to a real, all the way dance or trance party. There are many dance bars around the city; some stick to a certain music style and others play different sounds every night.

One of my favorite spots is called the Lima Lima. It’s located on Lilenblum St, in what is considered to be the lust and loathing zone of Tlv, where many pick up bars and pubs, dance clubs and eateries opened especially for munchies fill the area.

The Lima Lima offers a different line every night, so you can find yourself dancing to some trance or electric music one night, and jumping around to some funky 70’s tones on another.

I recommend checking out Tuesdays since this is Hip Hop night, and let’s face it, Hip Hop is the Bomb! People will start coming in around 22:00 (entrance fee is symbolic, around 10 Shekels), sometimes it can take a while until the right atmosphere fills the room, but it’s well worth the wait, and you’lll be dancing ’tilll your hips can’t take it anymore. You won’t believe it is a regular old Tuesday night, because the feeling is completely weekendy. The resident DJ of this funky line is Barak Weiss, who also hosts a Rap and Hip Hop radio show on Galaltz, called Black Business.

When you get tired and hungry (and I assure you, you will be) walk down to the corner of Herzel St. where you can have your pick between the excellent and fresh from the oven Beta Pizza or the delicious and varied Olive sandwich joint.

This happening evening will definitely help you get to the second part of the week, until you can safely land into the arms of the promised weekend.
