The Perfect Day in the Center of Tel Aviv

May 19th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Tel Aviv is definitely filled with lots of attractions and about a million different things to do at any given time. However this is also what makes it, like all great metropolitans, extremely overwhelming and hard to take in at first.

I’m going to try and make it a little easier for you. I put together a few daily plans (each day a different area) that will give you a chance to really get to know the city without getting completely lost.

Day 1 - Tlv Center

Morning
Well you just have to start you’re day with a hardy breakfast and on the busy Dizengoff St. you can find many different coffee places and small restaurants, some are good, some not so good, but one is absolutely fantastic. It’s called Eidelson 10 and it has the best pastries, cookies and cakes in the city. Start the day here with a cappuccino and a danish or a croissant.

After you’ve received your morning energy, walk towards Gordan St, which is considered THE street for great art galleries. You can just stroll up the road towards the sea and pop into any place that catches your eye, but be sure not to miss the famous Gordon Gallery (http://www.gordongallery.co.il) and the wonderful and variable Givon Gallery (http://www.givonartgallery.com).

Noon
With the cultural part of the day out of your way, you are now free to just have fun and in Tlv the best place for fun is most certainly the beach. Have your pick from about 10 different spots along the Tlv beach line (check out 5 Top beaches in Tel Aviv, for some more detailed recommendations).Grab a beer, rent an easy chair, and enjoy the peace and quiet (that is if you are at the beach on a weekday, cause weekends tend to get very busy).

The typical Israeli gets very hungry after a visit to the beach and the ultimate after beach food is humus!!!. On Yermiahu St, there is a nice selection of humus spots. You have Humas Neto (17 Yermiahu St), Humas Ashkara (45 Yermiahu St) and Humas Asaf (52 Yermiahu St), they all serve fresh and delicious humus. I personally can’t really taste the difference, but most Israelis have their favorite humus spot and they stick to it no matter what. The only problem is that after all this humus you will just have to take an afternoon nap…

Evening
Filled with energy, tanned and well fed, you are now ready to experience the real fun part of the day. Since central Tlv has so many cool pubs and night bars, the only way to go is to bar hop, and to make the hopping comfortable, you have to focus on a small radius. These days a very hot spot is the London Mini Store complex (Even Gvirol St. on the corner of Shaul HaMelech St.). It used to be an awful, dark and deserted mall, but a few new places opened up and changed the place around 180 degrees.

Start your evening at the Toma Bar, it’s an outside bar with alternative setting (including a few fun swings), and it’s a great place to have the evening’s opening cocktail and they serve a killer Caipirinha.

After you’re a little tipsy, walk down to the Heineken Music Room (it’s a 2 min walk), a new and very cool underground venue for live shows. Most nights they will have some known Israeli band playing and if not you can just enjoy the very hip resident DJ.

If you still have the strength and will power, a final solution for the night can be found at the Landen. The Landen is considered a Mega Bar, meaning it’s huge, bombastic and loud, but with that given, it is the best place to loosen up completely. It’s dark but elegant, its filled with beautiful young people which automatically makes it a bit of a pick up bar, but somehow it doesn’t have a sleazy atmosphere at all. It’s one of the only places in town where you can find yourself dancing like crazy with a bunch of people you’ve never met on any day of the week.

Now I think its way past your bed time, boys and girls.
sleep tight and prepare for tomorrow.
