I don’t know how to explain it exactly, since it’s not like peace has come to Israel, but some how more and more foreign artists are coming to perform this summer in Israel in general and even more so in Tlv. I am truly very surprised since us Israelis have known our share of disappointments in this area. The number of gigs that were canceled on us, and at the very last minute, is really inhuman. I’m talking Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kelly Clarkson and the absolutely heart breaking, last minute cancellation by Depeche. All of these and many more like them have made us Israelis quite skeptical what it come to imported music performances!
But as I said it seems like this summer we have been able to break our bad luck series. So far we’ve had the pleasure to host the all time oldie favorites Air Supply, right after that we enjoyed the sound of the killer reggae phenomenon Sean Kingston, followed just this week by the one and only Smiths survivor Morrissey! The only reason I didn’t recommend these shows in the past is because unfortunately they all took place in some of the worst venues in Tlv and the area, the kind of places where there is no way to avoid the crowds and the sound is just horrible!!!!!
Well the time has come and I can give a true hearted, clear headed and imported recommendation: The spectacular and groovy Macy Gray at the Goldstar Zappa Club.
This is one hell of a combination between the so very talented singer-song writer and highly valued Miss Grey and one on the best venues in Tel Aviv for live performances - the Zappa has the exact intimacy level needed for a show like this and still there is enough room to dance the night away (the performance is without seating, so you’re either going to dance or just stand there!!!).
For those of you who maybe somehow don’t know Macy I can just say in few words (since she’s already been to Israel and I was lucky enough to catch her) that she is really something else, she’s got the energy of a rocket but with just the right amount of coolness. It becomes very hard not to become a complete groupie….
I first fell in love with Macy (like most people I suppose) when her Grammy award winning single “I Try” came out and ever since I have been hooked, it also helps that she’s been cooperating with some of my favorite R&B, Hip Hop artists, like Justin Timberlake and Will I Am from the Black Eyed Pees.
In conclusion I can leave you with only 3 say words: Don’t miss it!
Macy Gray, Zappa Goldstar Club, 24 Raul Zalenberg St, Ramat Hahayal, 4-5th of August, at 20:00, 250 NIS a ticket.

Couldn’t agree more, a gig not to be missed. I saw her last time she played in Ceasaria and bless her she thought she was in Tel Aviv. She kept asking “How you doin Tel Aviv ?” Maybe what she meant was I’d rather be in Tel Aviv !!! Well who wouldn’t ?
